Located in the heart of West Sayville, Claws Seafood Market is a must-visit destination for anyone craving fresh, high-quality seafood paired with a laid-back, local vibe. Serving both as a seafood market and a fish and chips takeaway, this charming mom-and-pop establishment offers an authentic taste of the coast, right on Montauk Highway.
Claws Seafood Market stands out for its exceptional selection of fresh seafood, brought directly to customers in a warm, inviting setting where casual attire and relaxed attitudes are welcomed with open arms. Whether you're stopping by for a quick takeaway or opting to dine in, the atmosphere is refreshingly unpretentious—Julie Corwin perfectly captures this by highlighting how guests can show up in their riding or barn clothes without any fuss.
The menu, though simple, boasts deeply satisfying flavors and generous portions. Fans rave about the lobster rolls, described by Daniel Tusso as both "delicious and filling," a true testament to the quality and heartiness of the offerings. The shrimp Po Boys also earn high marks; while not exactly a New Orleans original, Mark Powell’s appreciation underscores the kitchen's skill at crafting bold, comforting sandwiches that hit the spot. For those who enjoy shellfish, the mussels during the seafood festival have been a standout, making it a great spot to return to in the summer months.
Beyond the classics, Claws impresses with standout sides like their sweet potato fries, called “blow me out of the water” by Julie, and surprisingly excellent hush puppies, which Kimberly Sabat describes as “better than expected” and generously portioned. The soups, such as their lobster bisque, have garnered mixed but loving feedback—ample and comforting, even if the bisque leans a little heavy on the wine. It’s the kind of dish that warms you on a chilly day, conjuring the cozy charm of this intimate spot. Moreover, the discovery of the Blood Orange Sicilian Soda adds a refreshing twist that guests find irresistible.
Service at Claws Seafood Market is another highlight, noted for its friendly, fast, and distinctly local vibe. Kimberly appreciates the smiles and warmth from the team, making the entire experience feel personal and genuine. The clean facility and reasonable prices add value, solidifying Claws as a community favorite that’s as accessible as it is delicious.
In summary, Claws Seafood Market offers a delightful seafood experience rooted in authenticity and local pride. From fresh catches to expertly crafted sides and an earnest dedication to customer service, it’s a true hidden gem on Montauk Highway that seafood lovers and casual diners alike will find themselves returning to time and again.
I recently discovered this casual gem of a market/eatery in the lovely village of Sayville. Able to dine in while sporting riding/barn attire without judgement. The oysters were remarkable as well as the soups and sweet potato fries. Those blew me out of the water, discovered that Blood Orange Sicilian Soda thanks to Claws, now I'm addicted. Talented kitchen and good counter service make this one of my top while frolicking with the ponies.
The lobster rolls are so delicious and filling! I also came here when the seafood festival occurred back in August of 2023. Their tray of mussels was also really delicious and I would like to come here more often in the summer!
We drove by said "why not" and it was good choice. The food was good and filling and quite frankly going in you'd never expect it but you'd be wrong. We had shrimp Po Boys and they were good. My wife is from New Orleans so it's not exactly that but it's a good sandwich.
Small Mom and Pop shop which sells fresh seafood. We ate at the self serve restaurant next to it. We had the seafood trio, stuffed clams and lobster bisque. Food was ample, portions are sharable. Lobster bisque had a bit too much wine.
Fast friendly LOCAL service. Really nice feel and plenty of smiles. Outstandingly grilled swordfish, nice size and flavorful! Hush puppies were better than expected, and what a large portion! Lobster bisque was so so, puree, not big on flavor, but nice on a chilly day. Definitely good food for a fairly reasonable price and clean facility. I will be back.
Such a cute spot & there’s a canal on the side where you can sit & enjoy the view. Today I had the lobster bisque and my friend had a lobster sandwich. The seafood is always fresh & tasty- the view is great & the prices are decent :)
